Digital Desk, New Delhi CAT 2021 exams were held across the country on Sunday. Most of the questions in the exam slot taken on Sunday were pattern wise. As already indicated by IIM-Ahmedabad, the number of questions in all the sections has been reduced. This time too the assessment plan for CAT remained the same as in previous years. There were three marks for correct answer and one negative mark for false MCQ answer. There was no negative marking for incorrect answers to questions other than MCQ. The morning slot of CAT 2021 was a bit more difficult compared to 2020.

TIME-Delhi-based analyst and academic head Pradeep Pandey said there were 24 questions in the morning slot in the VARC section, up from 26 in the previous year’s paper. The number of RC passages was four as in last year’s paper. However, the number of RC questions has come down from 18 to 16 as compared to last year. The number of VA questions was 8. Passing the RC this year has not been easy. It was also difficult to choose a passage to answer, as almost all passages were difficult to read. The only option for students to answer was to separate the difficult paragraphs and then try the remaining paragraphs.

Pradeep Pandey said that the questions were similar, in which the students had to choose the right option, which can only be done by leaving the wrong option. The options were the same and many of their passages were not even directly related to the question. Regarding the verbal ability questions, it can be said that the students who found the RC pass questions difficult have got some relief from it. The PFQs had some simple questions that students should try, as those questions were short in length and required simple understanding. The connection of the sentences was very clear. The OMO questions were tough, but the students could have guessed in these questions, as it is a non-MCQ.
